January 31, 2023 - Major League Soccer (MLS) - Orlando City SC News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando City SC has acquired midfielder Dagur Dan Thórhallsson from Breiðablik UBK of the Icelandic Besta deild karla, Iceland's top division, it was announced today. Thórhallsson will be added to the Lions' roster pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and ITC, on a two-year contract through 2024, with Club options in 2025 and 2026.
"Dagur Dan is a versatile player that can play both in the midfield for us, out on the wings or even at right back if we need and he's been involved with Iceland's National Team program since his days with the U16s," said Orlando City EVP of Soccer Operations and General Manager Luiz Muzzi. "He has a great engine and fits the profile of a box-to-box player that can give us strength in both our attack and defense."
A product of Haukar Hafnarfjördur's academy system, Thórhallsson was promoted to Haukar's first team in 2016 and has spent time on loan at clubs like KAA Gent (Belgium), Keflavík ÍF (Iceland) and Mjøndalen IF (Norway), before making his way to Breiðablik at the beginning of 2022. Thórhallsson has made 118 appearances in his professional career across all competitions, scoring 18 goals and providing 11 assists, and also won the Icelandic Championship with Breiðablik in 2022.
The Hafnarfjörður, Iceland native broke into the Icelandic National Team in 2022, making his senior international debut on Nov. 6 of last year in a friendly against Saudi Arabia, and has totaled four appearances for the senior side all-time. Since debuting for Iceland's U16 squad in 2016, he has totaled 33 appearances across all age groups and tallied two goals.
