
Whitecaps FC Sign 2019 MLS SuperDraft Pick Brendan McDonough to MLS Contract

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Wednesday that the club has signed centre back Brendan McDonough to an MLS contract for 2019 with options through 2022. The former Georgetown University defender was selected in the second round, 35th overall, of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft last January.

Made four appearances for the 'Caps in the preseason "We're pleased with the progress of Brendan," said Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos. "He's shown well during preseason and while training with us. We'll continue to work with him, he will also be involved with the development squad, and we'll evaluate his progression over the coming months."
TRANSACTION: On January 11, 2019, selected 35th overall in the MLS SuperDraft by Whitecaps FC. On March 6, 2019, Brendan McDonough signed an MLS contract for 2019 with options through 2022.
McDonough, 22, joins the first team after making four appearances for the 'Caps in the preseason.
"It's a great feeling and an honour to be with a club that believed in me from the start," added McDonough. "The team has made me feel at home from the first day. I'm really excited to get to work and hopefully make a positive impact here in Vancouver."
At Georgetown, the 6-foot-2 defender made 56 starts in 63 appearances, collecting two goals and two assists while serving as captain in the last two seasons. McDonough helped the program to three Big East Tournament championships in his four years, scoring the game-winner in the 2018 title game. As a senior, he was named to the All-East Region Second Team and the All-Big East Conference Second Team after he helped the Hoyas to a league-best 10 clean sheets on the season.
Born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, he played three years for Charlotte Catholic High School, while spending his junior year in Germany training with FT Braunschweig and Eintracht Braunschweig.
