Vancouver Whitecaps FC News Release
VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC defeated Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 in dramatic fashion on Sunday night, securing their spot in the Leagues Cup 2023 Round of 32. The 'Caps will now host Mexican powerhouse Tigres UANL at BC Place this coming Friday night on August 4. Kickoff times will be confirmed once all group matches have been completed on Monday night.
Whitecaps FC season ticket members have until tomorrow, Monday, July 31 to opt into their seats. Single match tickets will be on sale starting at 10 a.m. PT on July 31 at ticketmaster.ca/whitecaps.
Vancouver finished in second place in West Group 3 with four points in two games. The 'Caps earned a point from a marathon 38-kick shootout defeat following a 2-2 draw to Concacaf Champions Club León on July 21 at BC Place. Earlier tonight, Vancouver defeated LA Galaxy in a comeback win at Dignity Health Sports Park.
Tigres finished in first place in West Group 1 after a 2-1 comeback win over Portland Timbers, and a 1-0 victory against San Jose Earthquakes.
HISTORY AGAINST TIGRES
This will be the third all-time meeting between the two clubs, and the second visit to BC Place for Tigres UANL. In 2017, the 'Caps faced Tigres in the semifinals of the Concacaf Champions League, with the LIGA MX side eventually winning the two-match series 4-1 on aggregate.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Following the Round of 32, it will be a quick turnaround to the Round of 16 between August 6-8, the quarterfinals August 11-12, the semifinals on August 15, and the third place match and final on August 19.
The top three teams in the Leagues Cup will advance to the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup, which the 'Caps have already qualified for by winning the 2023 Canadian Championship.
