Jurrjens earns win with 15th quality start

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - Less than 24 hours after Beloit pitcher Kevin Slowey came within one out of throwing a perfect game against the Whitecaps, three West Michigan pitchers combined to throw a shutout against the Snappers in a 5-0 victory. Jair Jurrjens tossed the first six innings and allowed just three hits.

Freddy Dolsi added two innings of relief while Kevin Ardoin struck out three in the ninth to finish off the Snappers. Nick McIntyre and Jeff Frazier came up with back-to-back doubles in the third inning to put the Whitecaps on the board. McIntyre drove in Chris Robinson with the first run. Frazier's double plated a pair of runs for a 3-0 lead. With 33 doubles, Frazier now leads the Midwest League.

Luis Sabino added an RBI on a fielder's choice play to center field later in the inning for a 4-0 advantage. Brent Dlugach scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Brooks Colvin in the sixth, padding the lead to 5-0. West Michigan has won four of the first six in a string of eight consecutive games between the two clubs.

Pitching Change: RHP Josh Rainwater will miss his third consecutive start for the Whitecaps due to a blister on his pitching hand. Rainwater was scheduled to pitch Monday against the Snappers, but the other five pitchers in West Michigan's six-man rotation will each move up one day to fill the void.
