BATTLE CREEK, MICH. -- The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays scored seven runs on 13 hits but it was not enough in a 12-7 loss to the Fort Wayne Wizards on Sunday afternoon.
Both teams combined for 27 hits and left 22 runners on base. The Rays played come from behind after a four-run fifth erased a 3-2 lead. After tying it 6-6 and then 7-7 in the seventh, Willy Corporan was roughed up for five hits, four runs, three earned and one walk while spotting the Wizards an 11-7 lead. A home run in the ninth off reliever Tony Perez put the dagger in the hearts of the Devil Rays.
Patrick Breen had three hits for the Devil Rays, while Craig Markel and Brandon Rousseve each drove in two runs to lead the way for Southwest Michigan.
The Devil Rays will take on Fort Wayne again on Monday, August 7, at 7:05 p.m. The team is presenting another $5 Pizza Buffet promotion on Monday night where fans can enjoy all-you-can-eat pizza from 6:05 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The Rays will start LHP Jarrad Lavergne against the Wizards RHP Jonathon Ellis.
