Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
SAN ANTONIO - In his first three at-bats, Shay Whitcomb matched the club record with eight RBIs as the Hooks rolled to an 11-4 win over the Missions Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium.
Corpus Christi has won four of its last five games.
Following a 22-minute rain delay, Brandon Komar began the ballgame with a 1-2-3 first inning. In the second, Komar was greeted by a Joe Perez double and Whitcomb's circuit clout to straightaway center for a 2-0 lead.
After recording the first two outs quickly in the third, Komar was undone by three consecutive hits: a Luke Berryhill single, Perez double and Whitcomb double, as the Hooks jumped out to a 4-0 bulge.
CC then used a six-run fourth to salt the contest. C.J. Stubbs opened the frame with his second home run in as many games. Nine more Hooks came to bat as Whitcomb delivered a two-out grand slam for knockout blow.
Whitcomb has a hit a club-best 18 home runs, with seven coming in his last 15 games.
Perez, 4-for-5 on the evening, augmented two doubles with a two-out solo homer in the sixth. The effort upped his August batting average to .309.
