Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas (September 2)-Two vital pieces of the championship puzzle will return to the CHL Champions, Texas Brahmas, as coaches Dan Wildfong and Ron Vogel have signed on for the 2009-10 campaign.

The pair led the Brahmas to a 42-16-6 regular season record, a Brahmas franchise best, and finished at the top of the Southern Conference. In the playoffs, under the direction of Wildfong and Vogel, the Brahmas went on to win the Southeast division, Southern Conference and ultimately the CHL Championship. The title is the first for the Brahmas organization.

Wildfong returns for his third year behind the Brahmas bench, fulfilling Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations duties. The former Bossier-Shreveport captain spent eight seasons in the league before retiring and taking the reins for the Texas Brahmas in 2007-08. In his rookie year as coach, Wildfong advanced his team to the Northern Conference Finals before bowing out in a do-or-die game seven. Wildfong is the longest tenured coach for the Brahmas having coached 128 regular season games. His all-time regular season record is 82-38-8 and is 21-8 in the postseason.

During the past season Wildfong became the all time winningest coach in the Brahmas 11 year history, surpassing Terry Menard's 62 victories on January 16 at the NYTEX Sports Centre in a 5-0 victory over the Arizona Sundogs. Wildfong now has 82 victories accredited to his name.

"We are thrilled to have Dan and Ron remain as integral leaders with our family," said NYTEX President Frank Trazzera. "They truly exemplify the spirit, heart and soul of both NYTEX Sports and the Texas Brahmas."

Vogel will return in the same capacity as assistant coach for his second year coaching. In his first year, the former goaltender was responsible for the defense and goaltending. Vogel played eight seasons professionally, including one season (2007-08) in the CHL with Corpus Christi. Prior to playing pro, Vogel played juniors with the Texas Tornado in 1999-2000 at the same venue the Brahmas currently play in (NYTEX Sports Centre) and was teammates with Brahmas forward Jason Deitsch.

"Having Dan and Ron solidifies our on ice product," said Brahmas General Manager Mike Barack. "We look forward to having championship coaches return to defend their title."

The two have already been at work this offseason recruiting for a repeat of the success from the previous season. Currently, the Brahmas have 12 announced signings for the 2009-10 campaign. The season begins October 16 on the road in Colorado before Texas plays their home opener, Saturday, October 24 against the Mississippi RiverKings for a 7:05 PM faceoff.
