Mississippi RiverKings News Release

(Southaven, MS) --- The Mississippi RiverKings of the Central Hockey League (CHL) have announced the signing of rookie center Dan Gordon to the roster for the upcoming 2009-2010 season. Gordon becomes the 18th player added to the RiverKings roster for the upcoming year.

RiverKings Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kaminski feels Gordon will bring some great skills to the RiverKings lineup this season. "He is going to provide speed, skill, vision, with great playmaking abilities to find the open man," Kaminski said. "We look forward to Dan providing some offense for the RiverKings, along with his great attitude and work ethic on and off the ice."

Gordon, 24, comes to the RiverKings after playing the past two seasons with the University of Southern Maine, where he was a teammate of current RiverKings defenseman Dane Marshall during Gordon's junior season. The Lynnfield, Massachusetts native's collegiate career started at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and he also played part of one season with the New England Junior Huskies of the Eastern Junior Hockey League.

Dan says it's an honor to play for the RiverKings. "I consider myself a team player, very unselfish, I like to make good plays, I think I have good vision and I like to help the team and special teams on the power play," Gordon says. "I'm a decent skater and I don't mind getting my nose dirty, as well."

Last season at Southern Maine, the 5-foot-10, 185 pound Gordon led the Huskies in scoring with 15 goals and 20 assists for 35 points and 34 penalty minutes in 26 games played. He finished tied for second in scoring in the ECAC-East Conference with ten goals and 23 points in 19 conference encounters.

At the end of last season, Gordon was named USM's Most Valuable Player by the team and coaching staff. In addition, Dan was named a member of the first team all-ECAC-East squad, was a semi-finalist for the prestigious Joe Concannon Award as the top American-born player in the NCAA Division II/III ranks, and was selected as a member of the New England Hockey Writers Association ECAC East/Northeast Small College Athletic Conference All-Star team.

Gordon was also on the ECAC East Weekly Honor Roll twice during the season, on December 8th and February 24th.

In Gordon's junior year at Southern Maine, he was the team's top goal scorer with 13 markers in 25 contests. Along with 16 assists, Dan finished with 29 points and 42 penalty minutes to finish second on the Huskies' roster in scoring and in assists.

Gordon was on the roster at UMASS-Amherst for the 2006-07 season, but did not appear in any games. He played 19 games with the New England Junior Huskies in the 2005-06 year, scoring eight goals and adding 16 assists for 24 points. Four of the eight goals tallied came on the power play, putting him second on the Huskies' roster for power play red-lighters.

Dan started his collegiate career with four assists in 25 games as a freshman at UMASS-Amherst.

Season tickets are now available for another exciting season of RiverKings hockey at the DeSoto Civic Center in Southaven, beginning Friday, October 16th against the Tulsa Oilers, and starting at 7:05 PM. Call and reserve your season tickets now at 662-342-1755.
