BURLINGTON, N.C. - The fireworks shown bright on Friday, but Princeton countered with offensive fireworks of their own. They swept the series, and won game two 9-5. Burlington scored five runs on eight hits and Princeton scored nine runs on ten hits. Kenny Carillo started for the Puppets, and went four full innings, giving up four runs on four hits. Tyler Dyball started for the WhistlePigs, going four innings, striking out three, and giving up four runs, three of them earned.
Carillo started the game and gave up a hit and a passed ball to give the WhistlePigs a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the first.
In the Puppets' half inning, they lit up the bats, scoring four runs on four singles, highlighted by shortstop D'Andre Smith's two-RBI single to mark his first hit in a puppet uniform. They looked to set the tone with the offensive explosion, but wouldn't muster another run until the seventh inning.
A dropped third strike, a walk, two passed balls and two hits allowed four runs to score in the inning. Brady Day hit a single in the inning as well to attempt to pass the fifth run across the plate in the inning, but a laser throw by left fielder Benji Gilbert to catcher Parker Redden erased the run at the dish for the WhistlePigs. The offensive barrage tied the score at 4-4 to end the top of the fourth.
The WhistlePigs scored two more in the fifth off of a single by catcher Tre Morris and a monstrous home run to right field by designated hitter Dylan Rogers. They added on one more run in the seventh on a ground out by second baseman Brady Day to increase their lead to 7-4.
A double in the seventh inning to left field by Alex Haba scored Bayron Acevedo to cut the deficit to 7-5.
Cameron Uselton scored on a wild pitch to Brady Day to increase the lead to 8-5, and Day came around to score on another wild pitch to increase their lead to 9-5, where it would remain.
Jack McCrae took the loss, and Jackson Reid took the win for the WhistlePigs. Princeton improved to 11-1 on the year, and Burlington dropped to 5-8 on the year.
