Wheeling's MacKay Named ITECH HOCKEY ECHL Saver of the Week

MacKay posted back-to-back shutouts and picked up a shootout win to go 3-0-0 with a 0.00 goals against average and a 1.000 save percentage as Wheeling went 4-0-0 to improve to 42-13-2.

After making 21 saves in a 2-0 win against Cincinnati on February 27 and stopping all 28 shots he faced in a 3-0 win against Cincinnati on February 28, MacKay entered the game for the shootout on February 29 and stopped all four Toledo shooters to pick up the win. In his last five games, the 24-year-old MacKay is 5-0-0 with three shutouts, a 0.25 goals against average and a .989 save percentage. He has lowered his goals against average to 2.20 and raising his save percentage to .921 while improving his record to 14-4-0.

MacKay, who did not get his first start until Wheeling's ninth game on November 8, is tied for the ECHL lead with four shutouts and would rank third in the league in goals against average, but he has not played the required minimum minutes.

The 5-11 and 165-pound MacKay began his professional career in 2001-02 going 16-12-1 with a 2.83 goals against average and a .920 save percentage in 35 games for Wheeling. He returned to Wheeling in 2002-03 going 11-12-0 with a 3.43 goals against average and a .904 save percentage in 27 games. He also appeared in 15 games with Adirondack of the United Hockey League in 2002-03 where he was 5-9-0 with a 3.62 goals against average and a .877 save percentage.

Runners Up: Marc Magliarditi, Las Vegas (3 gp, 3-0-0, 1.67 GAA, .939 save pct.) and Mike Valley, Peoria (4 gp, 3-1-0, 1.76 GAA, .938 save pct.).
