Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the "AA" affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that Kevin Du has signed a contract for the 2007-08 season.
Du joins the Nailers offense after a four-year career at Harvard University. The 22-year-old recorded five goals and 20 assists in 33 games during his senior season.
"We have been following Kevin's career at Harvard for several years now, and believe he will be an immediate standout both on and off the ice." Said Nailers President Jim Brooks.
"He is a real hard worker and should bring a lot of energy to the offense," said Nailers Head Coach Glenn Patrick. "We are expecting him to get a lot of points.
As a junior, he led the Crimson with 33 points (10g, 23a) and was named to the All-Ivy first team, All-ECAC third team and the Division I All-New England team. He finished his career with 88 points (30g, 58a) in 135 games.
Before enrolling at Harvard, the Spruce Grove, Alberta native played one season of juniors with the St. Albert Saints of the AJHL. He averaged 1.4 points per game by notching 65 points (25g, 40a) in 48 games.
The Nailers will open the ECHL's 20th Anniversary season with a game against the Johnstown Chiefs on Oct. 18th. It will be a rematch of Game 7 from the first-ever ECHL Finals. Wheeling will open their home schedule on Oct. 26 against the South Carolina Stingrays.
