Ice Pilots Add Familiar Face From Gwinnett
August 9, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - President Greg Schuh and Head Coach John Marks announced the Ice Pilots have signed forward Luke Erickson for the 2007-08 season.
Erickson, 24, came aboard to the ECHL in March of last season following four years of collegiate hockey at Bemidji State University in Minnesota. The native of Roseau, MN scored 3 goals and notched 3 assists for 6 points in 11 games for the Gwinnett Gladiators. Erickson contributed to the league's top power play as all 3 of his goals came on the man advantage.
Head Coach John Marks is excited about having a young character player like Erickson join the Ice Pilots. "Luke comes from an area that has produced a lot of good hockey players when you are talking about Roseau, MN," said Marks. "There have been numerous NHL players from Northern Minnesota. I am sure Luke grew up idolizing these athletes."
"Luke has speed and skill. He is a strong, character individual. He had an outstanding career at Bemidji State. Following, he proved he can play in the ECHL. I am very excited about having a young man like Luke who will help return the Pensacola Ice Pilots to a team that is competitive."
Playing for Head Coach John Marks is the reason Erickson chose Pensacola. "I met with coach a couple of times. After meeting him, that was the main reason I wanted to come to Pensacola," said Erickson. "With his resume, that speaks for itself."
The 5'9'', 165 pound Erickson played in 125 career contests with the Bemidji State Beavers. Erickson scored 52 goals with 69 assists for 121 points. He became the first Bemidji State player to score 50 goals and 50 assists since the program joined Division 1 athletics and he is the university's career scoring leader. Prior to college, Erickson began his career in juniors in the USHL with Lincoln and Topeka, playing a total of two seasons.
