Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Calgary, Alberta -- The Brandon Wheat Kings closed out a 4-game in five night Central Division road trip Saturday night with a dramatic 7-6 overtime victory over the league leading Hitmen in Calgary.
Jay Fehr's powerplay goal at the 49 second mark gave Brandon the win and moved the Wheat Kings to within six points of the Eastern Division leading Saskatoon Blades. After serving back to back too many men calls during Friday night's 3-2 loss in Cranbrook, the Wheat Kings' game winner against the Hitmen on Saturday came after Calgary was assessed a similar call with just seconds remaining in regulation time.
Winners of eight of their last ten and 17 of their last 21 games, the Wheat Kings return home Sunday after winning three of four games out west.
Andrew Clark and Brayden Schenn scored two goals each for the winners on Saturday, with singles coming off the sticks of Nathan Green and Matt Lowry. Florida Panthers' second round draft choice Colby Robak added three assists for the Wheat Kings, who led 3-2 and 5-3 at the period breaks.
Defenceman Paul Postma had two goals and an assist in a losing cause for the Hitmen, who outshot Brandon 42-32.
While Brandon was busy beating the Hitmen on Saturday, the last place Moose Jaw Warriors were doing the Wheat Kings a big favour by upsetting Saskatoon 4-3.
The Wheat Kings kick off a 3-game home stand Tuesday night at Westman Place against Red Deer. Tickets to the game are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca
