Giants Sweep Cougars

PRINCE GEORGE BC - The Vancouver Giants broke open a close game with three goals in the third period to defeat the Prince George Cougars 4-1 and sweep the weekend series with the hometown Cougs.

After a scoreless first period, Vancouver was finally able break onto the scoreboard. At 12:24 of the middle stanza, Craig Schira pinched in on a Giants rush and was able to cradle a James Wright pass, hammering a shot past Cougars keeper Kevin Armstrong to and giving the Giants the lead after forty minutes.

In the third, Prince George would tie things up as Brett Connolly was able to sweep a shot past Giants goalie Jamie Tucker just two minutes into the final frame. That tie would be short lived as the Cougars would begin a parade to the penalty box. Brent Regner would jump on a loose puck and snap a shot past a screened Armstrong to regain the lead at 3:40 of the period. Craig Schira and Evander Kane would score goals with Vancouver on a two man advantage later on in the period and the Giants would roll to their eighth straight win.

Jamie Tucker would turn aside 28 shots for his 14th win of the season and the Giants move to 44-4-0-3 on the season and now have sole possession of the WHL's overall standings with 91 points through 51 games.

The Giants will head off to Spokane next Friday for a date against the defending MasterCard Memorial Cup Champions, the Spokane Chiefs. The Chiefs are on a 11 game win streak and the Giants have an eight game streak on the line!
