Chilliwack, B.C. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings improved guaranteed themselves of a winning west coast road trip Friday night with a 7-3 victory over the Bruins in Chilliwack.
Nathan Green scored twice and set up another as the Wheat Kings improved their west coast record to 3-1-0, with one game remaining - tonight in Vancouver against the 11-0-0-3 Giants.
Andrew Clark, Scott Glennie, Aaron Lewadniuk, Jay Fehr and Jordan Hale, with his first goal of the season, also scored for the Wheat Kings, who outshot the Bruins 34-32.
Ryan Howse had a goal and an assist in a losing cause for the Bruins, who trailed 5-2 through forty minutes of play after both teams swapped goals in the opening frame.
With the win, the Wheat Kings improved their record to 10-5-1, good for 21 points and fourth place in the Western Hockey League's Eastern Division - one point behind Regina, three back of Swift Current and four behind the first place Saskatoon Blades.
Following Saturday's game in Vancouver, the team returns home to face Swift Current and Medicine Hat on Friday and Saturday, November 7th and 8th as well as the Everett Silvertips on Remembrance Day - Tuesday, November 11th at 2:30 p.m.
In off ice news, the Wheat Kings will be busy this coming week, visiting area schools, skating with some of their young fans and turning in their skates and sticks to serve lunch and dinner at Montana's Cookhouse.
On Tuesday, several members of the club including captain Keith Aulie, veteran defenceman Chad Erb and Brayden Schenn will be waiting on tables during the 2008 Tip a Wheat King Night at Montana's. All tips received by the players (both at lunch and at dinner) will go to the Canadian Kidney Foundation. Fans are encouraged to make reservations by calling 726-5656.
Meanwhile three members of the hockey club, including newly acquired netminder James Priestner will be travelling to Swan Lake on Tuesday night as Coca Cola and Brandon Source for Sports present the first Minor Hockey Caravan of the season. In addition to skating with two of the local teams, the Wheat Kings will be signing autographs and distributing tickets (compiliments of Coca Cola and Source for Sports) to Brandon's November 21st game against the Kootenay Ice.
Wednesday morning sees veteran Matt Lowry take to the highway as the CIBC Read to Succeed Program visits Oak Lake Community School.
The busy week wraps up on Thursday when Cale Jefferies and Sanfred King deliver lunch (compliments of Subway) to the Manitoba Public Insurance - Brandon Sun School Patrol Unit of the Month. November's recipients are the hard working patrols from George Fitton School.
