Chilliwack Bruins News Release
The Los Angeles Kings have informed the Chilliwack Bruins that 19 year old center Oscar Moller will not be returning to the Bruins. Through nine games with the Kings this season, Moller has scored twice and added two assists.
Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi called Bruins General Manager Darrell May with the news late Friday afternoon.
"Dean said that Oscar has been very good. He continues to get better and that they would be keeping him. He's earned a spot." May said.
The Bruins chose Moller with the second overall pick in the 2006 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft. In two seasons with Chilliwack he scored 71 goals and added 81 assists. After being named Team MVP at the 2006-07 CHL Prospects Game, Moller was selected by the Kings in the second round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He was also a member of the silver medal winning Swedish team at the 2008 World Junior Hockey Championships in the Czech Republic last season.
"Obviously we'll miss Oscar in our line up. In my opinion he was the best all round player in the league, certainly the most exciting to watch," added May.
"As an organization we are very proud of Oscar, he played with his heart and soul for us and will have a special spot in all of our hearts as an original Bruin. This could not happen to a nicer young man."
According to NHL regulations when an underage player plays his 10th regular season game, the first year of his three year entry level contract kicks in and it officially counts as a year of that contract. After the player has played 40 games, the year counts as a year towards his seven years to unrestricted free agency. Although not likely, an under age player is eligible to be sent back to junior at any time during the season.
