Koper's Hat-Trick Lifts Chiefs to 5-1 Win

Levko Koper recorded his first career hat-trick and Dustin Tokarski stopped 35 shots, including a Kootenay penalty shot, in a 5-1 win over the Ice on Saturday night in the Spokane Arena. The Chiefs went 3-5 on the power play and are now 10-3-0-3 on the season with 23 points and in a first place tie in the U.S. Division with the Tri-City Americans.

Ryan Letts feed across the slot to the right post found Koper at 8:50 of the first period for his first, and Spokane's first on the man-advantage, of the night. Koper made it 2-0 at 11:41, also assisted by Letts, and the Chiefs had a 2-0 lead through 20-minutes. The Ice's best scoring opportunity in the opening period came on a Steele Boomer penalty shot at 19:28, but his attempt was stopped by Tokarski, who earned his ninth win of the season.

Spokane scored two power play goals 34-seconds apart in the second, the first on a two-man-advantage by Mitch Wahl at 19:14. Koper completed the hat-trick at 19:48.

The Ice scored their only goal of the night on one of their four power play chances at 8:12 of the third with a Tylan Stephens goal. Wahl's second of the night was a slap shot on the fly from the left wing at 13:13 of the third to make it a 5-1 game.

The Chiefs will play three home games in four nights next week, the first versus the Red Deer Rebels on TicketsWest Player Magnet giveaway on Wednesday, November 5th. Portland will visit on Coeur d'Alene Casino's Bingo Night on Friday and the first American Family Insurance Buck Night of the season is Saturday against Tri-City. Fans are encouraged to wear red and give the Spokane Arena a Red Out.
