Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba - The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings reassigned twelve players Sunday night following their annual Intrasquad Game at Westoba Place.
As a result of Sunday night's moves, the Wheat Kings have trimmed their pre-season roster to thirty-two players - three goalkeepers, nine defenceman and 20 forwards. Of those, four will be attending National Hockey League training camps this month. While Luka Burzan heads to Colorado and Ben McCartney joins the Flyers in Philadelphia, netminder Jiri Patera will be off to Vegas where he will join Brandon prospect Marcus Kallionkieli of Finland. The Wheat Kings first round selection in this June's Canadian Hockey League Import Draft is currently rehabilitating an off-season injury in Vegas before joining Brandon next month.
Among the players still in camp are three 15-year old prospects - forwards Nate Danielson, Tyson Zimmer and Rylen Roersma, who were all chosen in the first round of this year's WHL Bantam Draft in Red Deer. All three are ineligible to play in the league this season.
In Sunday's Intrasquad game, veteran Cole Reinhardt scored three times, including the winner with just over six minutes remaining in the third period to lift Team White to a 7-6 win over Team Black.
Reinhardt, who is entering his fourth WHL season this fall, scored goals in each period and teamed up with linemates Ridly Greig and Jake Chiasson for eight points.
William Highet, Caiden Daley, Jonny Lambos and Brett Hyland also scored for the White Team while Nolan Ritchie, Jonny Hooker, Davis Chorney, Owen Weihs, Connor Gutenberg and Burzan replied in a losing cause.
