Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, MB. -- Fresh off a grueling 7-game thirteen day Western Hockey League western road swing, members of the Brandon Wheat Kings will be back on the road on Tuesday as the hockey club kicks off its 2012-13 Read to Succeed and Minor Hockey Caravan campaigns.

On Tuesday morning, veterans Jens Meilleur and Nick Buonassisi will be travelling to Forrest Elementary to read to three classrooms and close to sixty students. Later in the day, veteran Tyrel Seaman will be joined by rookies Curtis Honey and Colton Waltz in Melita as the Wheat Kings will host their first Minor Hockey Caravan visit of the year.

In addition to skating with the Squirts, Novice, Atoms and PeeWees in Melita, the Wheat Kings will be signing autographs as well as distributing complimentary tickets to their November 9th WHL game against the visiting Lethbridge Hurricanes. These tickets have been made possible through the generous support of the Caravan's participating sponsors - Canadian Tire, Teleco Supply Co. Ltd and the Construction Association of Rural Manitoba.

The hockey club's Read to Succeed Program, presented by CIBC, begain in 2002 in Vancouver with the WHL's Giants. The program is aimed primarily at Grades three (3) to six (6) students. The program emphasizes the importance of reading, receiving a good education and performing to the best of your abilities.

This new program teaches early and middle years students that reading can be fun. The players will be promoting the message that reading is not only a critical skill, it's a tool that can deliver exciting adventures and open up a world of opportunities for students.

In addition to Buonassisi and Meilleur, the program features veterans Corbin Boes and Ryan Pulock.
