Montgomery Biscuits News Release

JACKSON, Tenn. -- A day after they were on the short end of a two-hit shutout, the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (18-21) returned the favor with a three-hit shutout of the Montgomery Biscuits (21-19), 2-0, in a Wednesday get-away matinee at Pringles Park.

West Tenn starting pitcher Joe Woerman (1-1) handcuffed the Biscuits through seven innings, walking four, striking out five and serving up only a double each by Jason Pridie and John Jaso to earn the victory.

Mumba Rivera and Craig James held off Montgomery in the eighth and ninth innings, with James recording the final two outs with the tying runs on base to pick up his sixth save of the season.

Biscuits starter Jon Barratt (0-2) pitched in and out of trouble during his four innings, allowing just a Charlton Jimerson second inning solo home run. The blow from the Jaxx centerfielder, his first four-bagger of the season, would prove to be all of the scoring West Tenn needed.

Diamond Jaxx catcher Luis Oliveros added an insurance run with an RBI double off of Montgomery reliever Jeremy Flanagan in the sixth.

In the losing effort, Pridie went 2-for-4 to extend his team-high hitting streak to 13 consecutive games and raise his batting average to .299.

Biscuits top prospect Evan Longoria sat out the game, a day after he was hit on the left elbow by an offering from West Tenn starter Doug Fister.

Even with the defeat, Montgomery won three of the five games from its host, the first series win for the Biscuits on the road this season as well as the first-ever series win for the Biscuits at Pringles Park.

Montgomery next returns home for a five-game homestand against the Birmingham Barons beginning Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. The Biscuits send lefthander Chris Seddon (3-2, 4.31) to the Riverwalk Stadium mound, opposed by Barons righthander Kris Honel (1-1, 3.34).
