Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps lost to the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers affiliate), 9-0, on a wet Wednesday night at Parkview Field. The game was delayed 1 hour and 10 minutes by rain.
West Michigan (15-20) starting pitcher Keider Montero threw five one-hit innings. One of the only mistakes he made came against the newest Fort Wayne (14-21) player. TinCaps first basemen Matthew Acosta kept his hot start to his High-A career going with a single in the second inning. At the time of the single, Acosta had base hits in four straight at-bats and four of five overall in his brief TinCaps career. The USC alum was called up from Single-A Lake Elsinore on Monday.
Acosta was the lone baserunner for Fort Wayne in the first three innings. Shortstop Jarryd Dale became the second runner after he walked in the fourth. Dale has reached base safely in seven of the last eight games. The Australian was caught stealing, though, and the TinCaps trailed 2-0 after four innings. Fort Wayne threatened again in the eighth. Angel Solarte picked up his second hit in as many days on a ground ball to deep shortstop. Acosta again reached on a bunt single that paralleled the third-base line all the way to the bag. Both runners were left on base.
Fort Wayne starter Jackson Wolf was solid in five innings. Wolf allowed two earned runs and struck out seven batters, tying a professional career high.
The West Michigan bats exploded from there. Perez and Crouch had back-to-back RBI singles in the eighth to lead a three-run inning. It was 7-0 after eight innings. A home run from Whitecaps shortstop Trei Cruz in the ninth was the final blow.
