Wenatchee Beats Fairbanks 3-2 After Comeback Scare

The Wenatchee Wild survived a determined comeback attempt by the Fairbanks Ice Dogs on the way to a 3-2 win.

Wenatchee took a 3-1 lead during the second period, only to have Fairbanks storm back on a Victor Munter goal 12:44 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Wild were led by Nicholas Rivera, who tallied one goal. Rivera scored 15:47 into the second period to make the score Wenatchee. David Powlowski provided the assist.

Wenatchee stifled the Ice Dogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 32 shots that the Wild put on net surpassed Wenatchee's average of 24.5 shots per game this season.

Gadel Gumerov also scored for Wenatchee. In addition, Wenatchee received assists from Brandon Schrader, Trey Bradley, and Sam Becker, who each chipped in one.

Fairbanks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Wild to score on any of their five power plays. The defensemen of the Ice Dogs were also effective in Wenatchee's zone, and came away with two goals. With 38 shots on target during the contest, Fairbanks exceeded the 32.9 shots it averages per game this year.

Fairbanks also got a goal from Doug Rose as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fairbanks were Brett Gervais and Lonnie Clary, who contributed one a piece.

Gustaf Johansson rejected 36 shots on goal for the Wild. Wenatchee incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kevin Aldridge recorded 29 saves for the Ice Dogs. Fairbanks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
