Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Josh Haverstrom scored his second goal in as many games and Tyler Ledford picked up his team-leading 13th point of the season, but it was not enough to keep the Wildcats (10-5-3) from losing to Rio Grande Valley (10-4-5), 3-1 on Saturday.

For the second-straight night, the Killer Bees opened the scoring. JB Baker found Nicklas Balboa in space in the faceoff circle, who in turn was able to sneak his shot past Chase Munroe at 9:37 of the first period.

The Wildcats responded well though, and equalized the affair at 15:15 of the frame. Tyler Ledford rushed the puck into the offensive zone along the left-wing wall before throwing a saucer pass to Haverstrom at the top of the right faceoff circle. Haverstrom picked his spot well, beating Olli Kalkaja for his fifth of the year and second in as many nights.

Rio Grande Valley retook the lead late in the second period. With Colin Staub in the box for cross-checking, Anthony Croston fed a pass in front for Schmidbauer to tuck home at 19:26 of the middle frame to make it 2-1.

The Killer Bees would add an insurance goal via a Cam Ashley breakaway at 17:15 of the third period to complete the scoring.

The Wildcats are next in action when they host the Lone Star Brahmas on Friday, Nov. 8. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. in the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
