VICTORIA, B.C. - The Victoria Salmon Kings (23-15-3-0, 49 points) fought off numerous comebacks by the Bakersfield Condors (23-10-2-1, 49 points), but took a 6-5 shootout victory Saturday night at Save-On Foods Memorial Centre. Condors Captain Shawn Weller had a hat trick for Bakersfield.

The two teams exchanged first period tallies, while Victoria led in shots 13-12. D Patrick Coulombe and LW Chad Painchaud scored for the home team, while RW Ryan Menei and LW Shawn Weller lit the lamp for the Condors. Bakersfield overcame 1-0 and 2-1 deficits in the period. Victoria had the only two power plays of the period, while Weller's tally came shorthanded.

Victoria pushed back in front in the middle frame. Painchaud added his second of the game, on the power play, and RW Wes Goldie blasted home his 25th of the season, shorthanded, to make it 4-2. Weller potted his second of the night, on the power play at 16:34 to cut the lead down to one. Bakersfield led in shots 12-9 in the period.

Early in the third, Weller completed the hat trick, erasing the deficit and tying the score up, 4-4, 2:46 in. But C Lance Morrison regained the lead for the Salmon Kings, at 11:01. Bakersfield wasn't done, though, and fought to tie it up a fourth time on the night, and with the extra attacker on the ice C Gino Guyer got the equalizer at 19:31.

Niether clubs scored in overtime and the Condors went to a shootout for the second time in three games. Victoria received goals from Goldie, and F Olivier Latendresse, while Aubin was the only scorer for the Condors.
