RAPIDS FACE SWANSEA CITY OF ENGLISH PREMIER LEAUGE FRIENDLY NEXT TUESDAY : On Tuesday, July 24, the Colorado Rapids take on English Premier League side Swansea City as they visit for an International Friendly at 7:00 p.m. MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. The Swans, who are currently preparing for their 2012-12 Premier League season, finished their 2011-12 campaign with an impressive 1-0 victory over 8th place Liverpool to give them a 12-15-11 record, good for 11th in the table. RAPIDS VISIT TORONTO FC FOR MIDWEEK MATCHUP: The Colorado Rapids travel to Canada this week for a midweek matchup against Toronto FC on Wednesday at BMO Place before heading to Utah to take on Real Salt Lake on Saturday at Rio Tinto Stadium. The Rapids kick off at 7 p.m. ET (5 p.m. MT) against Toronto FC, who are 4-11-4 (W-L-T) in the Eastern Conference and currently riding a two-game winning streak. The Rapids are 7-11-1 and have lost their last two matchups, and will be looking for a valuable three road points before facing rivals Real Salt Lake three days later.
LEG TWO OF SUBARU ROCKY MOUNTAIN CUP THIS SATURDAY: This Saturday, July 21, the Colorado Rapids face arch-rivals Real Salt Lake for the second leg of the Subaru Rocky Mountain Cup at 8 p.m. MT at Rio Tinto Stadium. Salt Lake are 11-7-3 and second in the Western Conference, and defeated the Rapids 2-0 earlier in the season on April 7 at Rio Tinto. The Rapids will host the third leg of the derby on August 4 at 7 p.m. MT at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, with tickets still available by visiting www.ColoradoRapids.com or calling 303-825-GOAL.
UNDER-18 TEAM BEGINS U.S. SOCCER DEVELOPMENT ACADEMY FINALS WEEK TODAY: The Colorado Rapids Under-18 Team begins their first-ever run in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Finals Week today in Houston, Texas. They first face De Anza Force of California at 8 p.m. CT (7 p.m. MT), and later in the week take on North Carolina Fusion and Vancouver Whitecaps FC. The Rapids were one of eight teams across the country to advance to Finals Week, the national championship tournament for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, by winning their group in playoffs in June. The winner of the group stage this week will advance to a single-game championship match against the victors of Group 2 (made up of FC Dallas, Chivas USA, Solar Chelsea FC and Baltimore Bays Chelsea), on Sunday, July 22. RAPIDS JOIN WITH COCA-COLA, WALMART TO PRESENT MILITARY APPRECIATION NIGHT JULY 28: On Saturday, July 28, the Colorado Rapids, Coca-Cola Refreshments and Walmart will honor members of the United States Armed Forces at Military Appreciation Night, which takes place at the Rapids match against Seattle Sounders FC. The event, which will celebrate outstanding military service, begins with a $10,000 donation to the United Service Organizations (USO) from the three partners prior to the match, and also features on-field recognition for several active duty service members as well as an enlistment ceremony at halftime. RAPIDS ACQUIRE TYSON WAHL FROM MONTREAL IMPACT: The Colorado Rapids announced on Friday that they have acquired defender Tyson Wahl from the Montreal Impact, in exchange for an International Roster Spot for the 2014 season. Wahl, 28, has made a total of 82 regular season appearances (70 starts) for Kansas City, Seattle and Montreal in his seven MLS seasons, and he will be available to travel with the team for this week's matchups against Toronto FC and Real Salt Lake.
