CHIVAS USA TAKES ON NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION THIS SATURDAY NIGHT: Fresh off the first victory of 2011 and riding a four-game unbeaten streak, Chivas USA returns to The Home Depot Center to face the New England Revolution this Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. PT. The Red-and-White, featuring forward Alejandro Moreno and in-form goalkeeper Dan Kennedy, will be facing Revolution midfielder Benny Feilhaber, who Chivas USA passed on in an allocation process held last week. RED-AND-WHITE EARN FIRST WIN OF 2011 IN DRAMATIC FASHION: Mariano Trujillo scored his first career Major League Soccer goal in the 85th minute of Saturday's match at San Jose, giving Chivas USA a 2-1 win over the Earthquakes. It was the Red-and-White's first win of 2011, moving the team to 1-2-3 (W-L-T) on the season and into the mix in the Western Conference. It was also a come-from-behind victory, as Chris Wondolowski gave the hosts the lead in the 16th minute before Alejandro Moreno equalized just before halftime. MIKE LAHOUD AND CHIVAS USA WITH CHARITY 'BOWLING EXTRAVAGANZA' THIS SUNDAY: Chivas USA's Mike Lahoud and the club's charitable organization, Fundaci�n Chivas de Coraz�n USA, will help raise money toward the building of a school in Sierra Leone, Africa, with the First Annual Bowling Extravaganza on Sunday, May 1 at the Lucky Strike Lanes in Torrance. The event will include a silent auction and a raffle, and all donations are tax deductible and will greatly assist in efforts to rebuild schools in Sierra Leone. TRUJILLO NOTCHES FIRST GOAL FOR THE RED-AND-WHITE: Since the start of 2009, Mariano Trujillo has been an important part of Chivas USA, serving primarily as the club's right-sided defender after a career in Mexico where he primarily played as a midfielder. This season, Trujillo has been used as a substitute and came up being for the Red-and-White, scoring his first MLS goal in the 85th minute of Saturday's game to give Chivas USA the win. Trujillo had gone 4186 minutes without scoring, and only one field player has ever played more minutes for the Red-and-White without a goal: defender Shavar Thomas, who went scoreless in his 5049 minutes with the club.
CHIVAS USA RESERVES FALL TO SAN JOSE: While Chivas USA was able to take a 2-1 win over the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, the club's reserve team did not fare as well, falling 3-1 to the Earthquakes Reserves in a match played later on Saturday afternoon. Mariano Trujillo, who scored the game-winner as a substitute in the first team match, scored again in the reserve game, picking up a pass from Victor Estupiñan and scoring from close range. The Earthquakes fought back, with Ryan Johnson, Rafael Baca, and Yuri Morales all scoring in the second half to give the home side the win.
YOUTH TEAM TRYOUTS COMING UP IN BELL GARDENS AND SIMI VALLEY: Chivas USA will be holding 'Sangre Nueva' Youth Team tryouts coming up this summer at a pair of locations in Southern California. First is a tryout in Bell Gardens on June 3, followed by another tryout in Simi Valley on July 23. Chivas USA coaching staff members will be in attendance at each of these events to assess and evaluate the entire player pool with the goal of finding players for the Chivas USA Youth Teams. 'CHIVAS AT THE PARK' CONTINUES SATURDAY, MAY 14 AT MAR VISTA: Chivas USA has kicked off the popular 'Chivas at the Park' program, and will continue the series of soccer clinics taking place in various parks throughout Los Angeles with a session on Saturday, May 14 at the Mar Vista Recreation Center at 11430 Woodbine Ave, Los Angeles, 90066. The clinics, which offer participating boys and girls ages 5-15 the opportunity to learn soccer techniques and practice drills that highlight teamwork in an environment that promotes the importance of fitness for the entire family, cost just $5 and include 90 minutes of soccer instruction, a Chivas at the Park t-shirt, and a certificate of completion. CHIVAS USA YOUTH TEAMS LOOK TO APRIL 30 MATCH VS. LA GALAXY: The Chivas USA Youth Teams have a brief break in their schedules before facing the LA Galaxy in a Mini Clásico on Saturday, April 30 at The Home Depot Center. In the Chivas USA U-18's last game, on April 9, the team won by its biggest margin of the season, taking a huge 7-0 win over Arsenal FC.
