Portland Timbers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. ‚¬" After visiting the LA Galaxy over the weekend, the Portland Timbers return home to play host to Real Salt Lake on Saturday at JELD-WEN Field live on ROOT SPORTS; kickoff is 7:30 p.m.

The Timbers have won two straight at home, defeating the Chicago Fire and FC Dallas to open their MLS home slate earlier this month. The Timbers are coming off of a 3-0 loss to the LA Galaxy at The Home Depot Center, bringing to a halt a three-game unbeaten streak, which included the team ‚¬â„¢s two previous victories at home.

Saturday ‚¬â„¢s matchup continues a stretch of games for the Timbers (2-3-1, 7pts) against some of the top clubs in MLS. Real Salt Lake is the lone undefeated club in MLS with a record of 4-0-0 (12pts) and ranks second in the Western Conference behind the Galaxy. Portland then plays host to the Philadelphia Union in its next league match on May 6; Philadelphia sits in second in the East.

The Timbers face a Real Salt Lake team that has forged its way to the 2010-11 CONCACAF Champions League final and will play host to Mexico ‚¬â„¢s Monterrey in the second leg Wednesday at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy, Utah. The two sides played to a 2-2 draw last week in Mexico.

Saturday begins a stretch of three straight home matches for Portland. Between league games against Real Salt Lake and Philadelphia, the Timbers play host to the San Jose Earthquakes in a U.S. Open Cup play-in match on Tuesday, May 3, at JELD-WEN Field.
