This Week:

12/14 & 12/16 at Cincinnati:

The Chiefs will be visiting U.S. Bank Arena for the first time this season when they make the 357 mile trip on Friday. Last season, Johnstown went 2-1-2 in Cincinnati; and of the current Chiefs who played in those games, Jean Desrochers had the most points with three assists. In their only meeting so far this year, the Cyclones bested Johnstown 2-0, the only shutout against the Chiefs this year.

12/15 at Dayton:

The Chiefs and Bombers last met on November 16, with Dayton coming away with a nine-round shootout victory. Ryan Garlock caught fire in that game, scoring three goals in the first two periods. The hat trick was Johnstown's first, and only so far, this season. The two teams combined for an exorbitant 104 penalty minutes, with the Chiefs contributing 59 of them, the team's high mark in PIMs for 2007-08. The Chiefs also lost the last time they traveled to the Nutter Center, a 5-3 Dayton victory.

Last Week:

12/4 at Augusta: L 8-2

The Chiefs surrendered the most goals in a game this season to the Lynx in the first game of their southern swing. It was also the first time a Chiefs starting goaltender did not finish a game that he started as Ryan Nie was replaced by Andrew Penner after allowing five goals in 28:56 of play. Jean Desrochers and Ryan Garlock scored 29 seconds apart in the second, trying to spark the Johnstown offense, but the Lynx would answer with three more goals to set the final score.

12/5 at Columbia: L 5-2

Through two periods the Chiefs looked to be in great shape to go 2-0-0 against Columbia this season, but a five-goal third by the Inferno erased those hopes. The Chiefs got goals by Jason Spence and newcomer Mike Falk in the closing minutes of the first and second period respectively, but the third was another story. Tyler Doig scored on a 5-on-3 advantage for Columbia, a goal that seemed to take all the wind out of the Chiefs' sails. The Inferno scored the next four goals in the period, setting the bar for goals in a period by a Chiefs opponent this season.

12/7 at Charlotte: W 4-2

Mike Falk had been traded to the Chiefs from Charlotte just two days prior to this game, and his old team couldn't have been happy to see him again. Falk assisted on Jean Desrochers' power play goal, and also scored a goal with 16 seconds left in the first period. Kenny Roche opened the scoring just 20 seconds into the game to go along with Desrochers' and Falk's first-period goals, and Charlotte never fully recovered from the Chiefs' onslaught. Mark Lee scored twice in the third for the Checkers, while Ryan Garlock tallied for the Chiefs after a scoreless second.

12/8-9 at South Carolina: L 5-2, 4-2

The Palmetto State continued to be unkind to the Chiefs as the Stingrays took both games against Johnstown at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Chiefs held leads in both contests after the first period (2-1 Saturday, 1-0 Sunday), but could not contain the Stingrays' offense. Steve Pinizzotto (3G, 1A) and T.J. McElroy (5A) were particularly problematic for the Chiefs. On the positive side, Alex Imbeault put the kibosh on a six-game goal scoring drought with his third two-goal game of the season in the Sunday game.

Famous Firsts: On Saturday, December 8 two Chiefs rookies picked up their first points in the black and gold. Defensemen Brandon Straub and Vladimir Denisov assisted on Kenny Roche's goal at 19:44 of the first period for their first points of the season. The assist for Straub was his first professional point, while Denisov, on loan from Lake Erie (AHL), showed up on the score sheet for the first time in a North American professional game. Denisov assisted on three goals while playing in 39 games for Tolyatti Lada of the Russian Superleague last season.
