Brampton Steelheads News Release
MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads split a pair of home games this past weekend against the Oshawa Generals and Saginaw Spirit, edging out the Generals 4-2 and falling to the Spirit 5-3 in a thriller of a game. Looking to climb back up the Eastern Conference standings, the Steelheads head into their third three-in-three weekend of the season. With a big weekend ahead of them, the Steelheads have the opportunity to leapfrog the Peterborough Petes in the standings and close the gap on the division leading Niagara IceDogs and Sudbury Wolves.
Kicking off the weekend, the Steelheads are at home taking on the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds (19-8-4-1). They hit the road on Saturday when they face-off against the Storm (14-9-3-4) in Guelph, then head back home on Sunday for a contest against the Sudbury Wolves (19-8-1-1).
Friday Night vs. Sault St. Marie Greyhounds
The Greyhounds are heading into their game against the Steelheads with a 7-2-1-0 record in their last 10 games. With the third best record in the OHL, the Greyhounds will be without top scorers Morgan Frost and Barrett Hayton who are currently attending Hockey Canada's World Juniors Selection Camp. Having yet to play against each other this season, the Steelheads are looking to start their weekend off on the right foot, taking down one of the best teams in the league. In two matches last season, the teams finished their season series at one game apiece. Friday's contest is the Steelheads annual Toys for Tots game in support of the Salvation Army. DETAILS HERE
Saturday Night @ Guelph Storm
Heading to Guelph on Saturday, the Steelheads take on the Storm in their second and final match against each other this season. The Storm are on a three-game slide, going 0-2-0-1 in their last three games and 4-4-0-2 in their last 10. In their first meeting of the season, the Steelheads came out on top with a 4-1 win at our school day game in November.
Sunday afternoon vs. Sudbury Wolves
Facing off in their fourth game in five weeks, the Steelheads have become very familiar with the Sudbury Wolves. The Steelheads are down 2-1 in their season series, dropping their last two games against the Wolves after winning the first game 5-3. The Wolves are heading into their weekend on a six-game winning streak and boast a 8-2-0-0 record over their last 10 games. The Mississauga Steelheads will don specialty football-themed jerseys when they play host to the Sudbury Wolves on Sunday afternoon. The jerseys feature a Pinball Clemons Foundation patch on the shoulder and will be auctioned off online following the game with 100% of proceeds being donated to the Foundation. DETAILS HERE
