Florence RedWolves News Release

The Coastal Plain League announced today that Fayetteville's Derek Gibson was named the Rawlings Hitter of the Week, while Florence's Alex Satterfield and Asheboro's John Tuttle were named Rawlings Co-Pitchers for the week of June 3-9.

Gibson, a redshirt junior from Southwest Missouri State, helped fuel the SwampDogs to a record of 5-1 on the week. He came up big at the plate batting .550 overall while racking up the most hits of anyone in the league. Gibson also posted an impressive 13 total bases, a .650 slugging percentage, and a .667 on base percentage. In addition to his numbers swinging the bat he was also clutch in key situations for the team, ending the week with three sacrifice hits.

Satterfield and Tuttle both performed at a high level for their teams leading to a tie for pitcher of the week. Satterfield, a 6-2, 175-pound freshman for South Carolina, made two appearances on the week, one as a starter and one as a reliever, allowing no earned runs in the process. He showed off his power arm striking out 11 in seven total innings of work, giving up only three hits resulting in a stout .120 opponent batting average.

Meanwhile, Tuttle pitched eight innings to help Asheboro complete a combined shutout on June 4 at Edenton. The 6-1, 190-pound junior out of Catawba College, shut down a Steamer's offense that had totaled 26 runs and 32 hits over their previous two games. He allowed only five hits and walked none on his way to an 0.63 WHIP for the week. Tuttle is now 2-0 on the young season with a 14 inning scoreless streak to start the year.
