Blowfish Win over Red Wolves 8-4

COLUMBIA, S.C.- The Columbia Blowfish defeated the Florence Red Wolves, 8-4 Tuesday night at Capital City Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.

Coming into Tuesday's game the Red Wolves were (6-3) on the season with a six game winning streak, in which the Blowfish popped.

The Red Wolves started off the scoring early in the second, scoring three runs off of five singles. The Blowfish scored Erik Barber (UCF), in the bottom of the second off of a passed ball.

The Blowfish put the game away when the offense sparked in the bottoms of the seventh with the RBI base hits from third-baseman Allen Staton (North Greenville) and right fielder Chris Newcomb (Saint Leo). In the seventh the Blowfish scored four runs off of four hits and two walks.

Blowfish starter Alex Carrasco (Florida A&M), came out tonight holding an (0-1) record on the season, and went four innings giving up four runs, two earned, off of eight hits, walking and striking out two, earning no decision. Reliever Cord Cockrell (Louisiana-Lafayette), came on in the top of the fifth for the Blowfish for his first appearance of the season. He tossed four fantastic innings, giving up no runs off of two hits, and six strikeouts to pick up the win.

John Oberholtzer (San Jose State), will take the loss bringing him to (0-1) on the season.

Tuesday's win over the Red Wolves brings the Blowfish to a (7-5) record on the season.

The Columbia Blowfish will be back in action at home Wednesday June 12th, facing the Martinsville Mustangs, with first pitch set for 7:05pm. Gates open at 6pm.

Celebrating its 17th season in 2013, the CPL features 14 teams playing North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
