MACON, GA- Following a great weekend, the Macon Mayhem will be on the road this upcoming weekend for three games. They play Friday night in Knoxville, TN against the Ice Bears, and then they will travel to Evansville, IN to play two more games versus the Evansville Thunderbolts on Saturday and Sunday.
The Knoxville Ice Bears are tied for second place in the SPHL with the Huntsville Havoc after going 2-0 this past weekend. They started the weekend with a 4-3 overtime win over the Evansville Thunderbolts on Friday night, and then they travelled to Southaven, MS, where they defeated the Mississippi RiverKings 3-0 on Saturday. Center Danny Cesarz leads the team in points with nine, all assists. He is followed by Mark Pustin with eight points. Michael Doan has started four games, and he has a 3-1 record while posting a goals against average (GAA) of 2.77 and a save percentage (SV%) of .929.
Following two losses in Macon this weekend, the Evansville Thunderbolts now sit at 0-6-2. Both goaltenders started this weekend for Evansville against the Mayhem. Tyler Parks is 0-2-1 with a GAA of 3.60 and a SV% of .895, and Tanner Milliron is 0-4-1 with a GAA of 3.82 and SV% of .890.
WEEKEND RECAP
The Mayhem went 3-0 this weekend and moved into first place in the SPHL standings for the first time in team history. In game one of the weekend, Macon defeated the Mississippi RiverKings in Southaven, MS. In a back and forth game, the Mayhem came out on top with a 4-3 win. The team returned home for two games against the Evansville Thunderbolts. In game one, the Mayhem held on for a 4-3 win, and in game two, the Mayhem won 5-2, scoring four unanswered goals. The Mayhem are now 5-1-1 through seven games.
John Siemer led the team with six points on the weekend, including two goals and four assists, and he now leads the SPHL in points with 10 on the season. Nick Grasso scored a goal in each game, including the game-winning goals in the first two games, and Daniel Echeverri scored two goals on the weekend also. Stephen Pierog added five points to his point total on the weekend with one goal and four assists. Garrett Bartus won two games, and Jordan Ruby earned the win in game two of the weekend against Evansville.
OTHER NEWS
The Mayhem have signed forward Stathis Soumelidis to a year-long contract after previously being on a three-game contract. As a result, the team has release defenseman J.P. Larmoyeux from his contract.
The Macon Mayhem return home on Friday, November 25th against the Fayetteville FireAntz and Saturday, November 26th against the Columbus Cottonmouths.
