Knoxville's Michael Doan Named Bauer Player of the Week

HUNTERSVILLE, NC - The Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) today announced goaltender Michael Doan of the Knoxville Ice Bears is the Bauer Player of the Week for October 31-November 6.

Doan notched a pair of road wins for the Ice Bears, going 2-0-0 with a 1.49 goals against average, a .966 save percentage and his first professional shutout.

On Friday, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario rookie made 51 saves, including 21 in the second period alone, as Knoxville defeated Evansville 4-3 in overtime. In addition to his outstanding night in net, Doan was credited with the only assist on Knoxville's first period power play goal. Doan was again between the pipes in Mississippi on Saturday and came away with his first professional shutout, stopping all 34 shots as he blanked the RiverKings 3-0.

Before turning pro, Doan played three years at Northern Michigan University before transferring to the University of Windsor for his senior season, where he went 6-6-0 with a 2.94 goals against average.

While with Northern Michigan, Doan was named to the 2014-2015 WCHA All-Academic team.
