Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA - Wednesday's scheduled Altoona Curve doubleheader at Blair County Ballpark against the Akron Aeros (AA/Cleveland Indians) has been postponed due to a continued drainage problem on the infield dirt area. The doubleheader has been moved to 10:35 a.m. Thursday. A decision on the rescheduling of Tuesday's postponed contest will be announced at a later date.
Fans holding tickets dated Tuesday, May 13th or Wednesday, May 14th can exchange their tickets for any 2008 regular season Curve home game of equal or lesser value subject to prior sales and availability. To exchange tickets, fans can visit the Blair County Ballpark Ticket Office or call (877) 99-CURVE.
"We are mystified by what we are experiencing with our field," said Curve General Manager Todd Parnell. "Obviously it rained for much of the five days before Tuesday night, but not so much that we should have had a problem of this magnitude."
"At this point, we don't know if there is ground water under the field that is contributing to the problem, but what we do know is that we have an award-winning Grounds Crew, we are speaking with experts in the field of sports turf management, and we are pulling out all stops, including heaters and helicopters, in an attempt to get the field ready for Thursday," added Parnell. "We don't understand why we are having this problem other than the fact we have a field with the life span of 5-7 years which is now in its 10th season. But while the age of the field is certainly a drawback, frankly we still don't understand why the problem we are experiencing is to this degree."
Thursday's doubleheader will mark the final day of the Curve's homestand. The team will open a seven-day road trip in Harrisburg Friday evening at 6:05 p.m. The Curve will return to Blair County Ballpark from May 23-26 for a Memorial Day weekend series against the Trenton Thunder (AA/New York Yankees). For seats to any remaining Curve home game, fans can call (877) 99-CURVE or order on-line at AltoonaCurve.com.
