Snider drives in four runs in 9-6 win over Connecticut

Manchester, NH- Travis Snider followed an intentional walk to Aaron Mathews with a two-run single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to cap a season-high four RBI night in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats' 9-6 come-from-behind victory over the Connecticut Defenders Wednesday night before 4,225 fans at Merchantsauto.com Stadium.
New Hampshire (14-24) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning against losing pitcher Dave McKae. Scott Campbell (2-for-4, BB, R) walked, Mathews (2-for-4, RBI, 2B, SB, 2 R, IBB) doubled to the wall in right and Snider (2-for-4, 4 RBI, BB, R) knocked in Campbell with a ground out. Brian Jeroloman (2-for-4, 2 RBI) scored Mathews with a line drive single to centerfield.
Trailing 5-2, the Fisher Cats scored twice against McKae (3-2) in the bottom of the second inning when Anthony Hatch (0-for-4, R) reached on first baseman Travis Ishikawa's error and Chris Gutierrez walked. Campbell singled to load the bases before Mathews drove in a run with a fielder's choice grounder, and Snider added his second RBI of the game with a single to right, scoring Gutierrez and trimming the Defenders' lead to 5-4.
New Hampshire went ahead to stay in the bottom of the fourth inning. Gutierrez (1-for-2, HR, 2 BB, RBI, 3 R) launched his first home run of the season, taking McKae's 1-0 pitch onto the patio in left-centerfield, tying the game 5-5. With two outs, Mathews singled and Snider walked, ending McKae's night. Reliever Josh Sharpless, making his season debut, allowed a David Smith (1-for-4, RBI, BB) RBI single to right, scoring Mathews, and Jeroloman's run-scoring single to right, bringing in Snider for a 7-5 lead.
Leading 7-6 in the eighth inning, the Fisher Cats added a pair of insurance runs against left-hander Jason Waddell when Josh Kreuzer (1-for-3, 2B, BB, R) led off with a double to the right-centerfield gap and Gutierrez walked. Connecticut manager Bien Figueroa opted to intentionally walk Mathews, allowing Snider to hit a bases-loaded, two-run single.
Connecticut (19-18) sent 10 men to the plate in the top of the second inning against winning pitcher Ricky Romero, scoring five runs on seven hits to grab a 5-2 lead. Simon Klink (1-for-4, RBI, R, BB), Nestor Rojas (1-for-4, RBI, R) and Jake Wald (2-for-4, 2B, RBI, 2 R) strung together consecutive RBI singles before Ishikawa (2-for-5, 2 RBI, SB) added a two-run single.
Romero (2-2) worked through his second-inning difficulties to post the victory. The left-hander went five innings, allowing five runs on 10 hits. He struck out three and walked two.
Zach Dials pitched a scoreless ninth for his team-leading fourth save.
The Fisher Cats and Defenders play the rubber game of their three-game series Thursday night at 6:35pm. Left-hander Brett Cecil (0-1, 3.65) takes the mound against Connecticut right-hander Joey Martinez (1-3, 4.76).
