Portland storms back for 10-6 win over Trenton

(Trenton, NJ)- Portland scored seven unanswered runs to defeat Trenton 10-6 on Wednesday afternoon at Waterfront Park. Trenton has now dropped two straight to the Sea Dogs, and three in a row overall.

Down 6-3 in the 6th inning, the Sea Dogs scored four two-out runs to take the lead off of Thunder reliver Michael Gardner (2-3). With the bases loaded and two outs, DH Mark Wagner was hit by a pitch to draw the Sea Dogs to within 6-4. C John Otness followed by walking to close the gap to 6-5. 1B Aaron Bates then produced the go-ahead two-run single to give Portland a 7-6 lead. Portland (23-15) would tack on three insurance runs in the 9th inning to put the game out of reach. The big hits in the three-run frame were a two-run double by CF Jeff Corsaletti and an RBI single by SS Iggy Suarez.

Trenton (24-15) took a 5-2 lead in the 4th inning with three runs. The big hits in the inning were an RBI single by C Joe Muich and a two-run single by SS Reegie Corona. Corona had two hits to go along with his 2 RBI. RF Edwar Gonzalez went 3 x 4 with 2 R in defeat.

The Portland bullpen tossed 4.1 IP of scoreless relief in the win. Kyle Jackson (2-0) tossed 1.1 IP and struck out 2 for the win. Gardner took the loss for the Thunder as he went 2 IP and gave up 2 H and 4 unearned runs. The Trenton pitching staff walked 11 batters after walking 12 the previous night. Thunder starter Phil Coke gave up 5 H and 3 unearned runs in 5 IP. He received a no-decision.

Trenton looks to salvage the final game of the series on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Jason Jones (5-0, 2.36) will start for Trenton again Portland RHP Justin Masterson (3-3, 4.50).
