Sioux Falls Skyforce News Release
The Sioux Falls Skyforce (27-7) dominated in every facet of the game on Tuesday night, beating the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (15-19) 123-74 to earn their fifth straight win. The Skyforce have now won 14 games at home this season, matching their win total from a season ago when they finished with a home record of 14-10.
Briante Weber notched the first triple-double of his NBA-Development League career with 11 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists in the game. Keith Benson, one game removed from scoring a career-high 32 points, recorded a 23-point, 11-rebound double-double for the Skyforce.
Rodney McGruder finished with an astonishing game-high +/- stat of plus-57 points in the blowout win for the Skyforce. McGruder logged 20 points, six rebounds, and six assists in the game and served as one of the main offensive contributors throughout.
Sioux Falls trailed 3-2 at the 11:12 mark in the first quarter, but took the lead on the ensuing possession and never looked back, outscoring Fort Wayne 40-18 in the first quarter and 38-13 in the third quarter to put the game on ice before the final period began.
All eight Skyforce players to dress and play in the game recorded double figures in points, including Bubu Palo who continued his hot free throw shooting making all seven of his attempts in the contest. Nigel Spikes scored 16 points and added six rebounds and five blocks to highlight three solid performances off the bench for Sioux Falls.
The Mad Ants saw Shayne Whittington (14 points), John Lucas III (10 points), and Stephan Hicks (15 points) all score in double figures, but weren't able to sustain any offensive momentum as they shot just 28.9 percent as a team in the loss. Defense continues to be an issue for Fort Wayne, as they have allowed more than 121 points in each of the last three games during their three-game skid.
With a 68-26 edge in the contest, Sioux Falls is now 23-2 when outscoring their opponents in the paint this season and have now held the opposing team under 50 percent shooting in 33 of 34 games.
The Skyforce will look to continue their winning ways as they hit the road to take on the Iowa Energy (16-18) on Thursday, February 25. Fort Wayne will continue their road trip, taking on the Canton Charge (21-13) in Canton, Ohio on Friday, February 26.
