
Webb of Flies; Squirrels Homer Twice in Defeat

Portland, Maine - The Flying Squirrels (53-58) dropped the series finale against the Portland Sea Dogs (46-65) 7-3 at Hadlock Field on Sunday afternoon. Right-hander Logan Webb lasted five innings in his Double-A debut and Dylan Davis and CJ Hinojosa each homered to lead the Squirrels. Portland's Bobby Dalbec also homered twice in the contest. Richmond went 3-3 on the road trip and are off on Monday before returning to The Diamond on Tuesday, August 8. Tuesday at The Diamond is the annual Tribute to the Peanut night. The first 1,000 fans (15+) will receive a free foam peanut cap.
Webb lasted five innings in his Double-A debut for Richmond. The highly-heralded prospect allowed three runs on six hits while tossing 82 pitches. He walked two and struck out four in the no-decision. Webb left the game at the start of the sixth inning, tied 3-3.
Garrett Williams (3-8) replaced Webb to begin the six and encountered trouble with a walk and hit batter to begin the frame. Danny Mars then gave the Sea Dogs the lead as he unleashed an RBI double to left. A wild pitch with Deiner Lopez at third also scored a run, 5-3. Williams suffered the loss for Richmond as he allowed both runs in one inning of work.
The Squirrels grabbed the lead early as Dylan Davis cracked a solo home run in the second inning to give Richmond a 1-0 advantage. Davis' 11th homer off the year bashed off the video board in left centerfield. It was the 17th long ball allowed this season by Portland's RHP Teddy Stankiewicz.
CJ Hinojosa also cranked a solo home run - his second of the year- to put Richmond ahead 2-0 in the third inning. Hinojosa's dinger carried off the top of the video board in left centerfield, further up than Davis' homer the inning prior.
The homers continued in the contest, this time for Portland and third baseman Bobby Dalbec in the bottom of the third inning. Webb walked Jeremy Rivera with one out and relinquished a two-run homrr to Dalbec, tying the game, 2-2. The dinger for Dalbec sailed into the seats over the right field wall.
Dalbec later added a solo home run in the seventh inning off reliver Ryan Halstead. The righty Halstead allowed a pair of runs in the inning.
The Squirrels could not muster much else off Stankiewicz, who earned the win. The veteran lasted seven innings and allowed the three runs on six hits in the win. Stankiecicz (7-9) struck out six and walked one to avoid the sweep for Portland.
The Squirrels now return home and are off day on Monday before returning to Funnville for a six-game homestand on Tuesday, August 7 against thee Binghamton Rumble Ponies. Flying Squirrels RHP Mike Connolly (3-3, 5.33) is scheduled to make his 6th start in the series opener and will square off against former Flying Squirrels lefty Matt Gage (0-0, 0.00) Gage began the season with Richmond and was released after a stay at Triple-A.
