Wave Futsal Contingent Preparing for FIFA World Championship in Chinese Taipei

The U.S. National Futsal Team, coached by Wave Coach Keith Tozer and featuring Wave players Greg Howes, Todd Dusosky, Johnny Torres and Pat White is getting ready for the FIFA Futsal World Championship November 21 – December 5 in Chinese Taipei. The MISL-dominated U.S. squad also includes: Sean Bowers and Steve Butcher (San Diego); Pat Morris, (Philadelphia); Jamar Beasley (Kansas City); John Ball (Cleveland); Andy Guastaferro (Chicago); and recently retired ex-Baltimore goalkeeper Scott Hileman. All but Torres, Butcher, Beasley, and Morris played for the U.S. squad which qualified for the upcoming FIFA tournament by winning the CONCACAF title in Costa Rica this past summer. The U.S. squad is set to depart November 14th and would return November 28th if it does not advance beyond first round pool play. The U.S. is scheduled to play Italy (11/21), Paraguay (11/23), and Japan (11/25) in the first round.

Futsal, the international version of indoor soccer, is a derivative of the outdoor game played with five players on each side (four field players and a goalkeeper) utilizing a limited-bounce ball on an open (wall-less) court slightly bigger than a basketball court. The U.S. Team has now qualified for four-of-five FIFA Futsal World Championships (1989, 1992, 1996, 2004).

Wave on Radio / Internet: All road games may be heard live on 540 AM, WRRD ("The Word") with air time for each broadcast approximately 15 minutes prior to kick-off. All games may be heard live on the Wave website at www.milwaukeewave.com.

Upcoming Opponents: The Wave will be taking on Baltimore in the first of four scheduled meetings between the clubs this season. It's also the first match between the teams since the Blast defeated the Wave three-game-to-none in the best-of-five 2004 MISL Championship Series. Milwaukee is also set to clash with Cleveland in the first of four scheduled confrontations.

The Wave improved to 2-1 with a 7-5 win over Western Division rival, the Kansas City Comets (1-1). Team co-captain Michael King collected a hat trick to give him five goals thus far this season. Nick Vorberg (2-0) recorded the win in goal for the Wave with eight saves on the night.

The Wave got on the board first when King caught the rebound and redirected the ball into the top corner of the net. The Wave extended its lead to 2-0 off a goal by Johnny Torres at 4:56 of the first period. King added his second goal of the game at 6:23 of the opening period to give the Wave a three goal lead. The Comets got on the board at the end of the first period off a goal by midfielder Anthony Maher.

King recorded the hat trick to keep the Wave rolling in the second quarter. He collected his fifth goal of the season off the power play when Kansas City was penalized for too many men on the field. The Comets cut the lead down to one with back-to-back goals by Anthony Maher and Stefan Stokich. Dino Delevski fed Maher the ball on the far side and Maher blasted the ball into the back of the net. Stokich caught a friendly bounce off the boards and converted for the score, the assist went to Jamar Beasley. The Wave extended its lead back to two when Maher was sent to the box when he was whistled for his fourth foul and Todd Dusosky converted the power-play goal.

Kansas City Comets goalkeeper Chris Damico was called for a handball at 6:12 of the final period, awarding Milwaukee a shoot out goal. Greg Howes converted past Sanaldo who stepped into goal while Damico was in the box. Beasley collected a power-play goal for the Comets at 7:23 after Troy Dusosky was called for holding. Maher cut the lead back to one when he collected the hat trick off the assist from Evans at 8:46. With just over a minute remaining, the Comets Jeff Davis was called for tripping and just seconds later, Damico was called for another handball outside the box, giving the Wave a two man advantage.
