KiXX completes two-game sweep in home and home series with Baltimore

Philadelphia, PA, November 8, 2004 –The Philadelphia KiXX, fresh off a two-game sweep in a home-and-home series versus the two-time defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champion Baltimore Blast, return to action in back-to-back contests at the Wachovia Spectrum. The club first welcomes the San Diego Sockers on Friday, November 13, then entertains MISL newcomer, the Chicago Storm, on Sunday, November 14. The first 3,000 fans to enter the gates for Saturday's contest will receive a 2004-05 Philadelphia KiXX Team Photo, courtesy of Baum Printing. The KiXX-Storm match-up features a Mascot Game, in which SocceRoo welcomes all area mascots to participate in a friendly contest at halftime. Game-time for Saturday is scheduled for 7:05 pm ET, while Sunday's contest is slated for a 1:05 pm ET start time.

Saturday's contest is the first of four meetings between Philadelphia and the San Diego Sockers this season ... the Sockers enter the contest with a 2-3 overall record, sitting the club second in the Western Division ... San Diego's roster features the return of several veterans including former MISL Goalkeeper of the Year Victor Noguiera, defender Sean Bowers, Paul Wright and Mark Ughy ... the Sockers also added all-star forward Steve Butcher via trade with the St. Louis Steamers and Nevio Pizzolitto in a deal with the Cleveland Force ... last season, the KiXX won the series, three-games-to-one.

KiXX vs. Storm

The KiXX and the Chicago Storm will meet for the time in franchise history on Sunday, November 14 ... the Storm were officially introduced as a MISL expansion team on May 25 ... Chicago acquired former KiXX midfielder Andy Guastaferro and defender Mauricio Vincello in the 2004 MISL Expansion Draft, but only Guastaferro agreed to a contract ... to date this season, the native of Canandaigua, NY has appeared in four contests and notched one block and a pair of shots ... the two clubs will square-off a total of four times this season.

Home-Opening Success: With the club's 6-5 victory over the defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast on November 6, the KiXX improve to 7-2 in their home game of the season in franchise history ... after defeating the Cleveland Force on October 23 in their 2004-05 season opener, Philadelphia is now 6-3 all-time on opening night.

Club Earns Two of Three Weekly Honors: The MISL announced today that Philadelphia KiXX forward John Barry Nusum and defender Pat Morris have been honored with Player-of-the-Week honors for the seven-day period ending November 7; Nusum was named the MISL Offensive Player-of-the Week, while Morris was dubbed Defensive Player-of-the-Week for the second time this season ... Nusum, who has tallied a goal in each of his first three professional indoor games, led all scorers with six points on four goals and two assists this weekend ... the native of Devonshire, Bermuda notched a goal and one assist in Baltimore on November 5, then registered a game-high four points on three goals, including the game winner, and one assist ... Morris, honored for the second time this season, notched six blocks and two goals versus Baltimore ... the Philadelphia native blocked a game-high four shots in Baltimore on November 5 and added two in the team's home opener on November 6 ... Morris is currently tied for first in the MISL with nine blocks.

Offensive Explosion: Philadelphia concluded the 2003-04 campaign with a 5.4 goals per game average (5th MISL) ... in three games this season, the club has nearly doubled their goal production, scoring 25 times for an average of 8.3 goals per game ... the KiXX connected 11 times in Cleveland (10/23), then knocking-in eight tallies versus the defending champs in Baltimore (11/5), and concluded the home-and-home series versus the Blast with six scores on November 6 ... that production sets the team's offense first in the MISL ... the defense, however, has struggled compared to last season ... this season, the KiXX have allowed 20 scores for an average of 6.7 goals per game, which is ranked sixth in the nine-team League ... last season, the club allowed only 5.1 goals per contest, finishing third in the MISL.

Block Happy: The team recorded a game-high 25 blocks versus the Cleveland Force on October 23 ... 10 of those blocks were registered by three of the club's newcomers ... Ptah Myers blocked a game-high four shots, while Philadelphia native Chris Fehrle notched three and John Barry Nusum recorded a pair of blocks ... veteran Edgar Bartolomeu registered four blocks and four-time all-star Pat Morris recorded three, en route to being named the League's MISL Defensive Player-of-the-Week ... all-in-all, 13 of the 16 dressed players notched at least one block ... the KiXX' stingy defense followed up with an 11-block performance versus the Blast in Baltimore on November 5 and added six more in the team's home opener on November 6 ... Morris currently leads the team and is tied for first in the MISL with nine blocks.

KiXX 6, Blast 5 (11/6): Philadelphia completed a two-game sweep of a home-and-home series with a 6-5 victory versus the Baltimore Blast in the team's home opener on November 6. For the second consecutive night, Baltimore jumped to a 2-0 lead, but the KiXX battled back to tie the score at 3-3 at the end of the first quarter. Carlos Garcia, Carlos Farias, and Denison Cabral tallied for the Blast in the opening quarter, while Philadelphia received a pair of goals from newcomer John Barry Nusum and a score from fellow rookie Chris Fehrle. After a scoreless second, the club's exchanged goals in the third period to enter the final stanza tied at 4-4. Baltimore's Billy Nelson struck first on a dish from David Bascome, followed by an unassisted tally from KiXX defender Edgar Bartolomeu. Cabral connected on his second goal of the night just 39 seconds into the fourth to give the Blast a 5-4 lead, but all-star defender Pat Morris quickly knotted the score back even, 5-5. Nusum then connected on his third goal of the evening on a feed from Bartolomeu to give Philadelphia their first lead of the contest and a 6-5 victory. Peter Pappas, in his first action of the season, earned the victory for the KiXX with 10 saves on 15 chances, while Brian Rowland took the loss for Baltimore, stopping nine of 14.

KiXX 8, Blast 7 (11/5): The KiXX knocked-off the defending MISL Champion Baltimore Blast, by a score of 8-7, in the first game of a home and home series on November 5; the set will conclude at the Wachovia Spectrum on Saturday, November 6. Baltimore held a 2-0 advantage after one quarter on goals from newcomer Adilson De Lima and Dension Cabral. Philadelphia midfielder Ze Roberto struck first for the KiXX, connecting with rookie Gary Brooks at 3:47 of the second, then set up John Barry Nusum for a header in front of the net just 21 seconds later (4:08) to tie the score at 2-2. Blast forwards Lee Tschantret and David Bascome sandwiched a notch from player/coach Don D'Ambra to conclude the first half with the KiXX trailing one, 4-3. Philadelphia bolted out of the gates in the third period, scoring three consecutive unanswered goals to take a 6-4 advantage into the final stanza. Shawn Boney struck first, followed by tallies from D'Ambra and defender Pat Morris. The Blast responded with three unanswered goals of their own to start the fourth to assume a 7-6 lead, but Joel Shanker quickly tied the score at 7-7 with a power-play from Goran Vasic. Roberto then sealed the club's 8-7 victory with a shot past Sagu and into the top corner of the net. Roberto recorded a game-high five points in the contest (two goals, three assists). Brooks registered a pair of assists to mark his first career points in his first professional indoor action. Stuart Dobson recorded the victory for Philadelphia , turning away 15 of the 22 shots he faced, while Sagu took the loss for the Blast with seven saves on 15 shots.
