Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-The Waterloo Black Hawks chose six players, including Taylor Cammarata - the first overall selection - during the 2011 United States Hockey League Futures Draft Tuesday.

The 2011 Futures Draft allowed USHL teams to pick six top hockey prospects born in 1995. Drafted players are retained on each franchise's affiliate list for up to three years. Waterloo owned the first pick in the Futures Draft by virtue of a random selection after the 2010 event.

"I've heard a lot of great things about the USHL; it's one of the top junior leagues in North America," said Cammarata. "It's a great honor to go first overall. I've got a lot to prove, and I'm looking forward to the challenge."

The Plymouth, Minnesota native starred for Shattuck-St. Mary's U-16 team in 2010-2011. He averaged nearly three points per game with 64 goals and 62 assists in 48 appearances. Cammarata will be a high school junior in 2011-2012. He is a former teammate of Black Hawks defenseman Ian McCoshen.

The Black Hawks also acquired the rights to the following players:
