Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Waterloo, Iowa-With the first overall selection in the 2011 United States Hockey League Futures Draft, the Waterloo Black Hawks selected Taylor Cammarata of Shattuck-St. Mary's prep school in Minnesota Tuesday.

The Plymouth, Minnesota native starred for Shattuck's U-16 team in 2010-2011. He averaged nearly three points per game with 64 goals and 62 assists in 48 appearances. Cammarata will be a high school junior in 2011-2012. He is a former teammate of Black Hawks defenseman Ian McCoshen.

Waterloo owned the first pick in the Futures Draft by virtue of a random selection after the 2010 event. The 2011 Futures Draft allows USHL teams to select six hockey prospects born in 1995. Drafted players are retained on each franchise's affiliate list for up to three years.

In 2010-2011, eight of 15 players chosen in the first round of the 2010 USHL Futures Draft appeared in at least one game for their new club, including Vince Hinostroza and A.J. Michaelson for the Black Hawks. Four other players who skated for Waterloo in 2010-2011 were acquired through the Futures Draft process: Tyler Zepeda, Max Edson, Eamon McAdam, and Jay Williams.

The Futures Draft will continue throughout the day Tuesday. Live results can be viewed online at ushldraft.com.
