Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY, Neb. ¬" The Tri-City Storm selected six new players in the 2011 USHL Futures Draft. Forward Trevor Moore from the LA Selects U16 was the first player the Storm selected with the 8th overall pick in the first round.
Moore, who is from Thousand Oaks, Calif., led the LA Selects with 41 points last season, including 19 goals and 22 assists in 35 games. Moore ¬â¢s team had the best record in Tier I midget minor hockey last season going 32-3-0, 64 pts.
¬ÅWe are very excited to pick up a player of Trevor ¬â¢s caliber, as he possesses a lot of skill for a young player, ¬Â said Storm GM/Head Coach Drew Schoneck. ¬ÅWe can ¬â¢t wait to get him into camp and see what he can bring to the Storm in the future. ¬Â
After not having a second round pick, Tri-City selected two players in the third round beginning with forward Kyle Eastman from Buffalo Regals U16 with the 38th overall pick. With the second pick in the third round (44th overall pick), the Storm picked defenseman Griffin Foulk, who played with the Colorado Thunderbirds U16.
Forward Dan Labosky was selected in the fourth round (53rd overall) by Tri-City. Labosky, who ¬â¢s from Edina, Minn., had 10 goals, 33 assists in 27 games last season playing as a sophomore for Benilde-St. Margaret's High School in Minnesota.
After swapping picks in the fifth round with Cedar Rapids, the Storm selected Connor Hutchins from the Dallas Stars U16 with the 74th overall pick. Hutchins had 18 points (9g, 9a) in 32 games last season for Dallas.
Forward Gage Quinney from the Las Vegas Storm U16 was selected 83rd overall with the Storm ¬â¢s final pick in the sixth round. Quinney led Las Vegas with 24 points (14g, 10a) in 20 games this past season.
¬ÅOverall, we feel like we had a strong futures draft and are happy with the players that we were able to obtain today, ¬Â said Schoneck following the Tuesday draft.
Last year in the 2010 Futures Draft, the Storm selected forward Andrew Dorantes with their final pick in the sixth round. Dorantes became the lone player to be a regular in the Storm lineup this past season. Forward Tim Lappin, the Storm ¬â¢s top pick (2nd Rd, 17th overall), played in one game this past season for Tri-City.
Most of the players from the 2010 Futures Draft will attend the main camp this June trying to make the Storm team for next season, while the 2011 future picks will attend camp looking to get their first experience of junior hockey.
Schoneck and the hockey operations staff will now prepare for the May 16th USHL Entry Draft that will fill out the Storm ¬â¢s protected roster before the Storm ¬â¢s June main camp. The main camp will determine which players will come into training camp in August.
