Weekend Recap

The Black Hawks fell 4-0 to the Green Bay Gamblers in their only game last weekend. The visitors scored just 1:51 into the contest; the goal by Sheldon Dries was the first of two points. Adam Wilcox made 26 saves in his second victory versus Waterloo this season. Combined, the teams accumulated 58 minutes of penalties, peaking with 32 in the second period. Each side was 0-for-4 on the power play.

WJAC Update

Waterloo forward Vince Hinostroza was selected as the top player for the United States during the U.S. Junior Select Team's debut at the World Junior A Challenge Monday. Unfortunately, the U.S. team could not score and a goal by Ludvig Nilsson in the closing seconds yielded a 1-0 victory for Sweden. The final preliminary round game for the United States during the tournament is Wednesday versus Canada West before quarterfinal play begins on Thursday.

Slim Support

Goaltender Eamon McAdam has had the least offensive help of any USHL goaltender who has started at least three games this season. The Hawks' offense has been shutout in two of three games McAdam has started while averaging just 1.33 goals per contest. The only other goalies with less than two goals of support are Zane Gothberg of the Fargo Force (1.63), John Keeney, with the Muskegon Lumberjacks after starting the year in Omaha (1.75), and Stephon Williams of the Sioux Falls Stampede (1.86). Waterloo has recorded 2.75 goals per game during Jay Williams' starts.

Affiliate First Appearances

Jake Horton, Kyle Schmidt, and Tyler Sheehy became the latest Waterloo Black Hawks to debut as affiliate players a season before joining the organization fulltime. Four current Hawks previously had the same experience, including Tyler Zepeda in 2008. Zepeda and Ryan Papa last season each scored goals during their affiliate games. Forward A.J. Michaelson and goalie Eamon McAdam made six and four affiliate appearances respectively in 2010-2011.

Veteran's Day Game

Friday, the Hawks will play on Veteran's Day for the first time since 2006 when they defeated the Des Moines Buccaneers 4-2 at Young Arena. Josh Turnbull had two goals and two assists in that win, while Matt DiGirolamo stopped 18 shots. Matt Arhontas, Craig Smith, and Brett Barta also each had multipoint efforts.
