Iowa Wolves News Release
Des Moines, Iowa - The Iowa Wolves (18-19) overcame a 10-point fourth quarter deficit during Friday's contest but were unable to come away with a win, falling to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (24-17) 117-111 at Wells Fargo Arena.
The loss marked the Wolves fifth straight and leaves Iowa under .500 for the first time since Dec. 29.
Wes Washpun was a one-man wrecking crew for the Wolves in the final quarter of play, scoring 10 of his 12 total points while lifting the Wolves from a double-digit deficit.
Minnesota Timberwolves first round draft pick Justin Patton led the Wolves with 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the floor. The former Bluejay picked up four rebounds, three assists and two steals in his first game back since being reassigned to Iowa on Feb. 22.
The Wolves outshot the Vipers for the game, shooting 47.8% while holding Rio Grande Valley to 44.6% from the floor, including a lowly 7-of-36 from deep (19.4%).
However, the Vipers capitalized from the charity stripe, outscoring the Wolves 28-17 for the game.
Seven players finished in double figures for Iowa's balanced offensive attack.
Amile Jefferson recorded his league-leading 26th double-double of the season, finishing with 13 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
Elijah Millsap and Shawne Williams each came off the bench to finish in double figures, scoring 17 and 13 points respectively. Millsap added five rebounds and a team-high four assists to his resume on the night.
Markel Brown paced the Vipers with a huge double-double, tying a season-high with 41 points while hauling in a team-high 12 rebounds. Two-way player RJ Hunter added 20 points off the bench for Rio Grande Valley.
The Wolves travel to Fort Wayne on Sunday to begin a two-game road swing. Tipoff is set for 5:00 p.m.
