Grand Rapids Drive News Release
GREENSBORO - Jamel Morris scored a team high 26 points, Landry Nnoko finished with 22 points and 19 rebounds and Zeke Upshaw scored 25 points and hit six three-pointers in the first half as the Grand Rapids Drive (21-18) defeated the Greensboro Swarm (13-25) on the road on Friday night. The final score was 123-118.
The Drive have now won seven games in a row, not missing a beat after 12 days without a game. Kay Felder chipped in 17 points as well for the Drive, also gathering five rebounds and four assists.
Damien Wilkins was on fire for the Swarm, finishing with 37 points on just 23 field goal attempts. John Dawson and Marcus Paige scored 18 points apiece, with Paige also collecting eight assists. Despite Upshaw's big night the Swarm hit 17 three-pointers as a team, equal to the Drive. Wilkins and Dawson hit four three-pointers apiece and Luke Petrasek hit five three-pointers off the bench, finishing with 17 points, a game high for players that did not start.
The Swarm had a six point lead with less than three minutes to go, but the Drive closed the game on a 15-4 run to seal the win. The score was close throughout the game, with no team ever able to build a lead larger than 10 points. The seesaw battle saw 17 lead changes and 12 ties throughout the game. The Drive were slightly more in control thanks to a strong start to the second quarter, but it did not stop the Swarm from nearly running away with the game midway through the fourth.
The Drive will now play the second game of a back-to-back Saturday night against the Lakeland Magic on the road. The Swarm will host the Long Island Nets on Monday night for their next game.
