Richmond Roosters News Release
Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters got behind early in a 9-1 loss to the Washington Wild Things Friday night, losing their second game in a row for the first time in over a month. The Wild Things scored seven runs in the first three innings putting Richmond in a big hole that it could not climb out of.
The Wild Things distanced themselves from the Roosters early by getting seven runs over the first three innings. Matt Swope led off the first inning with a solo homer to left. Patrick O'Brien followed that with a two-run triple to right for an early 3-0 lead. Chris Sidick added three more in the second when he crushed a ball over the wall in right, giving the Wild Things a 6-0 lead. Andy Hudak made it 7-0 in the third when he doubled to left-center, scoring Ryan McGraw from second.
The Roosters got a run in the fifth when Justus Kimbrough hit an RBI single to right that scored Joe Rhomberg, but Washington added two more in the sixth. Hudak scored on an error and David Reaver came home on a RBI single by Matt Swope to give the Wild Things a 9-1 lead. Neither team could work anymore runs across the plate as the Roosters would go on to drop the first game of the series. Matt Brumit (4-1) won it for Washington while Mike Cervera (1-1) was the loser.
The Roosters and Wild Things will continue the series on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. (Indiana time). Tony Casoli (7-2, 3.63 ERA) will make the start for Richmond on short rest.
