Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Kalamazoo, MI - For the 2nd straight night, the Kalamazoo Kings plated 6 runs in an individual inning and beat the ThunderBolts. Windy City fell 8-6 Saturday night at Homer Stryker Field.
The Bolts snatched a 1-zip lead for starter Bobby Mack as Justin Schuda clubbed his 16th homer of the season. It came off of Kalamazoo starter Josh Martin. In the bottom of the frame, the Kings squared the game with an RBI groundout. Darryl Blaze pushed Kalamazoo to the lead for good at 2-1.
In the 6th, 10 batters came to bat against Mack and reliever Wes Mindingall The first 4 reached base in the stanza. Within that, Justin McClain pasted a 2-run homer off of the right-hander Mack.
Windy City mounted a rally in the final innings. Doug Schutt blasted a 2-run homer in the 7th inning and Matt Ferrara did the same in the 8th. But, Josh Daws slammed the door in the 9th for his 8th save. He K'd the side of Bonilla, Crosland and Schuda.
The Kalamazoo victory marks the 10th time in 11 losses that the Windy City opponent has chiseled 8 runs or more onto the scoreboard. The 3 Windy City round-trippers were the most in a single game since the 22-run brutalizing of Gateway on July 26th.
The Bolts try to avoid the sweep tomorrow behind lefty starter Rick Weber. The team has won both games that Weber's started this year. You can catch every piece of the action starting at 4:20 Central with the pregame show. The Bolts and Kings show the first pitch at 4:35.
