"We are thrilled to formalize our partnership with the Washington Spirit and welcome them to Loudoun County for two games at Segra Field. In doing so, they become the first top-flight team in any sport to play a regular season game in Loudoun, furthering our growth as a soccer destination," Loudoun Economic Development Executive Director Buddy Rizer said.
"We commend the organization for prioritizing fan safety, taking the 'Loudoun Is Ready' pledge, and even making the difficult decision to play without fans at the stadium. This is the first of what we hope will be many Spirit games at Segra Field, as we work towards a bright, #LoudounPossible future."
Loudoun Economic Development and the Spirit have partnered to highlight the benefits of doing business in, living in, and traveling to Loudoun County.
"We are excited to finally be playing at Segra Field in Loudoun County. The people at Loudoun Economic Development and throughout the county have been extremely welcoming and helpful," said Gretchen Hamm , Spirit Chief Growth Officer. "We look forward to the Training Center opening in 2021 and our players and staff being here full time."
The Washington Spirit partnership with Loudoun Economic Development runs through the end of the calendar year. Loudoun County is the latest addition to a growing family of corporate partners eager to get involved with the Spirit and the National Women's Soccer League as the league achieves national exposure via matches televised on CBS and the CBS family of networks.
