Washington Spirit News Release
Washington, D.C. - The Washington Spirit's away match against NJ/NY Gotham FC on Sunday, June 23 will now kick off at 1:30 p.m. EDT, the clubs announced today. The shift one hour later will help to create a pro women's sports doubleheader on ESPN. The east coast rivalry match will now lead directly into coverage of the highly anticipated WNBA game between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky in the mid-afternoon.
The Spirit will head north to take on rival NJ/NY Gotham FC next weekend in the second and final 2024 regular season match between the sides. In the first matchup on CBS, Washington secured a 2-0 victory behind a game-winning goal from standout rookie Croix Bethune and an insurance goal from the club's all-time leading scorer, Ashley Hatch.
Next weekend's match will be the first for the Spirit on ESPN under the NWSL's groundbreaking new broadcast deal.
